Administration Centre Beringen

Competition design for the (re)development of a townhall, library, chapel and houses.

The purpose of the project is to build a new urban administrative center on the site of the former Sint-Jozefcollege with the associated developments and the reconstruction of the market, which offers the opportunity to create a core area that is on the scale of Beringen, without the development having to be particularly urban in nature. In other words, the development should be core-reinforcing, without necessarily wanting to be dense. At the same time it must have a certain fineness which is inviting and which organizes the navigability of the site in a clear manner despite the height differences.

The master plan consists of two characters:
- The Market as a central square for Beringen. The Market is a paved square with catering facilities, a pleasant place to stay with an urban character. The market can be used for market and events with an obstacle-free floor.
- An inner area with public functions. This inner area has a more intimate scale level and a green character in connection with the church garden. The inner area is higher than the Market Square at the location of the church garden. A green staircase provides a natural transition between the two characters.
