The masterplan for the Agfa-Gevaert IV site creates a famework of attractive public spaces around which housing and diverse functions are organized. Architecten Achtergael has designed the central residential building. The building has both an elevated and a central garden, a mixed programme of different residential typologies and commercial space, and also an underground car park with a water buffer.
The groundfloor is organised through the circulation of its visitors and the conceptual separation of acceses. Both the commercial spaces and public functions are accesible through the public square and they face the surroundings towards de west of the site. On the other hand, the residential areas are accesible only from the interior patio. In this way both programmes are clearly characterised and the interior garden gains extra significance as the core of the project.
