Party Hall Knokke-Heist

Competition design for a new party hall.

The location of the building is a well-considered decision. On the one hand, the aim was to connect as much as possible to the park zone and to create as large a square as possible on the public side. On the other hand, the aim was to provide sufficient space for a functional car park on the logistics side of the building. It was a deliberate choice to embed the building, which is adjacent to the park, in a green area, i.e. to construct the car park to the west of the building with grassed areas and to retain as many trees as possible, but also to plant a few trees. The new Ravelingen 3.0 festival hall is a vast building three storeys high with a public side and an artists' / logistics side that dialogue in a subtle balance. The programme is mainly hidden behind a closed façade, as many rooms do not need natural light. Other spaces inside do have this need, they can benefit from sufficient natural light via patios and the terrace. To ensure the quality of the indoor climate, the rooms are also protected from overheating by canopies.
The closed side walls arouse the curiosity of passers-by; as they approach, they are triggered by the canopy that hides large windows. A large glass section invites/attracts the visitor to the entrance of the main hall. The public part of this room is located on the east side of the building. In this way, the entrance hall with multi-purpose room and the mezzanine are optimally linked to the square. The main hall is located in the heart of the building. Natural light enters through a large window adjacent to the terrace.
