The project area is located on the route of the former railway line 62, which now forms a supra-local connection between Ostend and Torhout in both a functional and a tourist-recreational manner as the bicycle route Groene 62. The area is a zone for local activity with a typical architecture and morphology of large, industrial buildings and sites. The implantation and development of a transparent police station in this special location can respond to this. By extending a route for soft traffic, the entire business park will have a fast connection with Torhout station and can thus be revitalised.
The ambition is to maximise the inherent qualities of the zone for the functioning of the local police force and to give a first impetus to the further qualitative development of the area in which the original green 62 can take its place as an axis for soft traffic and as access to police services. The challenge is to create, within the existing typology of large-scale commercial buildings, a contemporary public building with a pleasant, flexible and efficient working environment for the local police force.
